About Krav Maga

Krav Maga (‘contact combat’ in Hebrew) is an Israeli self-defence system that is considered the most effective self-defence system in the world.

In Krav Maga, we teach people to function during the stress and shock of a sudden, violent attack so that they have the best chances of surviving and keeping themselves and their loved ones safe.

What makes Krav Maga so powerful is that it is designed for real-world problems, including dangerous attacks and threats, a wide range of grabs and chokes, attacks with various weapons including sticks, knives and guns, and dealing with multiple attackers.

To prepare ourselves as realistically as possible, we train in real-world scenarios and environments, so frequently training will take place outside, in stairwells, in car parks, in alleys, in vehicles… anywhere where an attack may take place. This gives students an appreciation of the differences in environment, lighting, sound, ground surfaces etc all as part of being better prepared for the situation we hope they are never in.

But fundamentally, Krav Maga hopes to teach students how to avoid a violent confrontation. Yes, Krav Maga teaches explosive fighting and defensive skills, but more importantly, Krav Maga teaches students to be aware of themselves and their environment and to know how to avoid a potentially life-threatening situation.

Importantly, Krav Maga is easy to learn because it harnesses a person’s natural reactions and reflexes. Students of all levels with no combative experience can progress quite quickly to a level where they feel capable of handling most basic scenarios. As a bonus, Krav Maga also improves fitness, endurance and physical conditioning.
